The Goodyear Blimp

In 1898, Frank Seiberling established the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio. The company quickly became the world leader in rubber manufacturing, despite only starting with 13 workers. Thus giving Akron, oh the nickname “The Rubber Capitol of the World”.

Capitalizing on the drive of the industrial revolution, Goodyear started to look for different and unique ways to expand beyond tires. The answer? The Blimp. They entered into the business of lighter-than-air balloons and aircrafts. The first blimp was built in 1912 and by the following year they began building and flying the blimps for national and international competitions.
